These are risk factors for kidney disease to keep in mind according to Dr. Griffin Rogers, Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK):

  • 70% of kidney failure cases are caused by diabetes and high blood pressure.
  • African Americans are 3 times more likely to develop CKD than Caucasians; Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, Native Americans and Seniors are at increased risk.
  • Having heart disease.
  • Having a history of kidney disease.
